Overview of Course

The purpose of this program is to provide the learner with increased knowledge of the Bispectral Index System (BIS™) monitoring.

Supported by an educational grant from Medtronic.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Understand how to operate and interpret electroencephalogram (EEG) data from bispectral index (BIS™) monitoring systems.
  2. Utilize EEG information for BIS™ monitoring systems to personalize anesthetic dosing and potentially help detect cerebral hypoperfusion.
  3. Understand the cost of implementing BIS™ monitoring.
  4. Review quality improvement programs to track clinical outcomes to assure improvement in outcomes such as discharge, complication rates, and satisfaction scores.

Verification of Participation

The participant will have only 2 opportunities to successfully complete the course post-test, which is comprised of 10 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. If the participant fails the post test, he or she will not receive CE credits for this course.
