The Alternative Payment Model (APM) incentivizes practitioners to provide high quality and cost-efficient care. APMs are complex and that is why we put together a four-part educational series based on Medicare data. Each part will teach CRNAs how the anesthesia care we provide ties into APMs and affects our reimbursements.  

Each module is one hour in length and divided into subsections.

Module 2: Risk Analysis of Five Alternative Payment Models and Two Accountable Care Organizations (1 Class A CE Credit)

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

    1. Be aware of the specific anesthesia codes that are most commonly included in APMs.
    2. Understand the breakdown of providers that provide anesthesia services across different APMs.
    3. Understand how anesthesia services fit into APM costs relative to other provider costs.
    4. Be able to articulate the variation in anesthesia services across different APMs.

Module 3: Guidance and Recommendations Based on Five Alternative Payment Models and Two Accountable Care Organizations (1 Class A CE Credit)

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

    1. Understand the different cost mechanisms of APMs and how anesthesia services fit into these cost mechanisms.
    2. Differentiate the variation of anesthesia costs across different APMs.
    3. Understand at a high-level the different risks and opportunities for potentially engaging with different APMs.

Module 4: Contract Concepts and Strategies (1 Class A CE Credit)  

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

    1. Understand a 6-step value-based contracting strategy to set the foundation for successful APM negotiations.
    2. Be able to articulate how one's clinical processes can fit into a contract strategy. 
    3. Be able to highlight key considerations for successful partnerships.
