Overview of Course:

This course is intended to introduce concepts of healthy coping skills and resiliency strategies to the CRNAs and student nurse anesthetists, in order to reduce stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. A healthy approach to stress reduction can help prevent unhealthy coping behaviors, such as alcohol and drug abuse. This knowledge may also prevent the occupational risk of deaths, related to substance abuse in both the anesthesia professional and for the patients in their care. The overarching goal is to create a healthier work force, and as a consequence, to optimize patient safety.

Learner Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Discuss the concepts of personal and professional wellness.
  2. Describe elements of a balanced life, including interaction of mind, body, and spirit.
  3. Describe four influences on wellness.
  4. Define responsibilities associated with self-care.
  5. Review challenges to work-life balance unique to anesthesia professionals.
