Overview of Course

The purpose of this activity is to provide the learner with knowledge concerning medicine use, trends, and side effects.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Define Herbal medicine.
  2. Discuss recent trends in herbal supplement use in the United States.
  3. Describe indications for various herbal supplements including St. John’s wort, saw palmetto, echinacea, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, garlic, and kava.
  4. Differentiate adverse events caused by herbal supplements.
  5. Examine anesthetic implications of patient herbal supplement use.

Verification of Participation

The participant will have only 2 opportunities to successfully complete the course post-test, which is comprised of 10 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. If the participant fails the post test, he or she will not receive CE credits for this course.
