Overview of Course:
The purpose of these lectures is to educate Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Students regarding the current incidence of postoperative complications following major surgery, to discuss the evidence surrounding enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) or enhanced recovery protocols (ERP), and to provide evidence to support the adoption of ERPs , specifically, the use of patient goal directed fluid therapy(PGDT) protocols. The audience will also hear personal accounts of implementation of ERPs within hospitals nationally and the challenges, successes, and outcomes realized with these new programs. Suggestions for implementation of ERP will be reviewed.
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
Outline the concerns related to traditional perioperative care versus evidence-based practice.
Outline the development of protocol-based perioperative care.
Describe the pitfalls and successes of implementing enhanced recovery processes.
Identify literature surrounding traditional versus evidence-based fluid perioperative administration.
Select a patient goal-directed fluid therapy (PGDT) protocol in the perioperative setting, and understand monitoring options for performing PGDT.
The course post-test will not launch until you have full watched the video in its entirety. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. The participant will have only 1 opportunity to successfully complete the course post-test which is 20 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. If the participant fails the post test, they will not receive CE credits for this course.
