Overview of Course

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to better understand maxillomandibular fixation, how to better manage anesthesia in these cases, how to deal with and avoid complications and most importantly, how to release a patient from fixation in an emergency.


Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:


  1. Describe the details of maxillomandibular fixation (MMF).
  2. Describe the details of emergency release of maxillomandibular fixation (MMF).
  3. Discuss anesthesia complications that can arise due to maxillomandibular fixation MMF).
  4. Discuss methodologies of obtaining a secure airway in a case requiring maxillomandibular fixation (MMF).
  5. Discuss methodologies to provide safe and effective anesthesia care to patients with maxillomandibular fixation (MMF).


Verification of Participation

The participant will have only 1 opportunity to successfully complete the course post-test, which is comprised of 10 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. If the participant fails the post test, he or she will not receive CE credits for this course.
