Overview of Course:

The purpose of this activity is to review best practices regarding depth of anesthesia monitoring for the anesthesia provider.


Learner Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

 

  1. Compare normal blood flow to and from the optic nerve, and compromised blood flow as characterized in anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, posterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and central retinal arterial occlusion.

  2. Discuss the relationship between ocular perfusion pressure, intraocular pressure, and mean arterial pressure.

  3. Recognize surgical procedures that are associated with perioperative vision loss.

  4. Identify specific surgical and patient factors that contribute to POVL

  5. Name interventions that can reduce IOP in the prone or steep Trendelenburg positions.
