Overview of Course

The anesthesia practitioner will gain insight into the physiologic and pharmacologic impact of cannabis on the anesthesia plan of care and incorporate this knowledge into their practice.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:   

  1. Describe the history of cannabis use and the impact of federal restrictions as it pertains to conducting research and obtaining data on its effects.
  2. Explain the phenomena of the endocannabinoid system and the resultant properties of cannabis differentiating the pharmacologic effects of CBD and THC.
  3. Describe the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of cannabis.
  4. Analyze the potential impact of cannabis on physiologic systems and differentiate between acute and chronic use.
  5. Create an anesthetic plan for the patient utilizing cannabis with attention to its physiologic effects with attention to differences between acute and chronic use.

Verification of Participation

The participant will have only 2 opportunities to successfully complete the course post-test, which is comprised of 5 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. If the participant fails the post test, he or she will not receive CE credits for this course.
