Overview of Course

Upon completion of this activity, CRNAs will possess the knowledge to safely administer anesthesia to a brain-dead donor.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the collaborative role of the CRNA functioning as multidisciplinary team member in the clinical management of brain dead donors before and during organ procurement procedures.
  2. Classify the criteria required to verify brain death and potential organ donors.
  3. Review the physiologic mechanisms of organ rejection and post transplantation immunosuppressive therapy principles.
  4. Identify the physiological challenges in the clinical management of a brain dead donor before and during organ procurement procedures.
  5. Examine specific challenges to the anesthesia provider with brain dead donors undergoing organ procurement procedures.

The course post-test will not launch until you have reviewed the PDF article. The passing score of at least 80% is required for the exam in this course. The participant will have only 1 opportunity to successfully complete the course post-test which is 10 random questions pulled from the test pool of questions. If the participant fails the post test, they will not receive CE credits for this course.
